1) The Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy offers a unique opportunity for mid-career professionals to deepen their understanding of applicable legal and policy frameworks and develop strategic and managerial skills. By engaging professionals on emerging challenges and issues, the course also aims to enrich the humanitarian debate and improve the professionalism of the international responses to armed conflict.
2) The Thematic Workshop on Children and Armed Conflict* will address the various ways children are affected by contemporary conflicts through distinct legal and policy perspectives. Focusing on viable protection mechanisms and ways to enhance accountability and access, this course will examine specific challenges to child protection in conflict, including child health, education, and sexual violence. Through expert presentations, case studies, group discussions, and simulation exercises, participants will develop critical knowledge of international humanitarian law as applied to this vulnerable population.
*Participation in the Thematic Workshop requires completion of the Core Professional Training or an equivalent multi-day training.
While both courses will be conducted in English, there will be opportunity to pose questions and receive answers in French.
For information on agendas, course fees, applications, etc., please visit our website (www.hpcr.org/professional_development.html).
Drawing participants from around the world, the HPCR International Professional Development Program is designed for mid-career applicants from intergovernmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, military, governments, media outlets, and the private sector with prior exposure to humanitarian affairs.
In conclusion, I encourage you to distribute this information to individuals in your organization and/or other colleagues who might be interested in attending the Advanced Professional Trainings in Dakar.
